Exciting Heritage Partnership in Cumbria

Symbiont are pleased to announce that we are now working in partnership with Oakdale Mersey Flat CIC on an exciting project to preserve the internationally significant heritage vessel Oakdale. The vessel, a traditional Mersey Flat, is one of only 4 surviving sea-going vessels of composite construction, others being the Cutty Sark and HMS Gannet.

Oakdale is currently beached on the sands at Askam in Furness and although secured, she is at risk of

deterioration from the weather and the tides, whilst in her current position and state. The partnership has developed plans to preserve the vessel (protect her from the elements), have her moved to a secure permanent home where conservation may be delivered alongside education and awareness raising of the importance of the vessel.
